Suburban Underground Vadders
|
So… What is all of this about eh? Well I guess you could say that we’re part of an underground subculture that people from all over the world share. This subculture has a common hobby that has been called vadding, infiltration, urban exploration, draining, and other names. We are the people that look at the urban landscapes all around us a bit differently. We see and pay attention to the places that “normal” people turn a blind eye towards, the places that were once great monuments of industrial workmanship now for one reason or another are left to rot and decay. It always seems that one day the workers just dropped whatever they were doing and just disappeared. The people who take part in this type of hobby tend to clump together into clans of sorts, and it’s probably a good thing. What we do is certainly not the safest thing to do in your spare time and it’s always a good idea to at least have one other person around incase you fall off a crumbling rooftop or step on a rusty nail, or worse.
“If it’s so dangerous then why do it?” one might say. Well the answer to that is simple, because it is an adventure. That would be the short version. I do it because I think decaying silent steel and concrete buildings are fascinating and in many ways beautiful. Also the adrenaline rush you get sneaking around and discovering things that only a few if any have seen in years. Maybe you’ll be the last person to see and record the dark and dank basement of a once great industrial giant before it is leveled to make way for the new parking lot.
Our particular clan is one of the first on the internet based in Texas and is named S.U.V. (Suburban Underground Vadders). Another characteristic about what we do is that it teeters on the edge of being illegal and certainly goes beyond when you trespass. Now usually you only have to worry if you are on private property where the owner dislikes unexpected guests and might chase you off with a shotgun. Police are usually only worried about people who are vandalizing, using the place to use illegal substances or underage drinking. Of course you want to avoid getting caught but as long as your not doing the above they usually slap your hand and let you go (from what I hear, I haven’t been caught as of yet.). Speaking of substances, never do any mind-altering substances before or during a mission... actually, never do any of this because its dangerous and I don’t want anyone blaming me. The point of all this is that most urban adventurers don’t use their real names and blur out their faces in any pictures that they might be in to protect their identities. This being said the name that I go by is RevSM. I am the admin and co-creator of the SUV clan and website. You can find my profile and information by clicking on “members” as well as the profiles of my clan mates.
Now, if you didn’t get the above, the disclaimer:
Don’t do anything like this. If you must do this never do it alone and don’t be an idiot while doing it. When you do these types of things, you are usually breaking the law or in a place that you’re really not supposed to be even if it doesn’t say so. You can get injured, detained, arrested, deported, shot, and possibly die as well as other not so fun things if you decide to do things of this sort so don’t say you haven’t been warned.
