Suburban Underground Vadders

New Austin Tunnel

After a good long walk and testing the awesome acoustics of this tunnel we came to the first of 3 filtration dams. These are the dams that were built to filter out the sludge coming from the highway. Pretty shitty if you ask me but I guess they sort of do their job because on the other side of this thing was a nice lake of water and pudding-like mud. (Picture by CMH)

Directly above each of these 3 filtration dams are vertical shafts like this. I expect that these eventually lead to either curbside gutter boxes or drain grates in the median. One of these tunnels was at least 4 stories from where we were standing to the ceiling at the top.

These filtration dams are supposed to have a layer of rocks encased in mesh fencing. This one however, looks like heavy rain or debris caused it to twist up and the rocks had been dispersed downstream.

For scale, here is CMH jumping down from the filtration dam.
