Military Hospital
Thanks to, Mike, a fellow explorer in the San Marcos area we received some interesting information about an abandoned building in one of the richer neighborhoods in the city. When we started looking into this place it seemed to fit the description that it was given, a mental hospital. Well apparently this is not true. To bad but the true answer is no less intriguing. A friend who happens to live in the same neighborhood moved into a house about a block away that had some very strange history so she went to the public library to get some info. What she found was most interesting, her house was once a mortuary and funeral home and her room was the embalming room… but that’s a whole other story. While looking up this information she also discovered the history of this building. Apparently it started off as being a military hospital. She also mentioned that there was a mortuary in the basement. Unfortunately we didn’t have this information the first 2 times I went but what I did know, the last thing that occupied this building was a fraternity. A story that goes along with this is that new members of this fraternity were brought into the club through hazing. The particular way that they did this is that the first night that they spent in that house had to be spent in one of the drawers of the mortuary. Another is that the reason that they abandoned the property is that it was haunted. Those last two stories are not proven of course.
At the first look at this property it looks relatively well taken care of, but if you look past the front lawn you can see that the trees aren’t exactly very well taken care of and all but a few shards remain of any of the windows. These pictures were actually taken on my second visit because the first visit photos went away with a hard drive crash. At leat these pics ended up as being better anyways because the first visit pictures were taken at night with no tripod.
Here you can start to see how the plant life has started to take over.
Standing in the same place turned more towards the front of the house where you can see the front porch and also under the porch. About this time it started to drizzle rain lightly.
Well at this point I decided to use a valid excuse to get closer, that being the fact that the rain was only getting harder and I was carrying an expensive camera with no other shelter. So I went out back to see this. The small shed-thing in the middle of this picture had an open door.
Now you can see the shed a little better in the bottom right and also a fire escape but im not so sure if it is verry safe to try to use.
