Downtown Tunnels - Austin

This side tunnel about 1 foot wide had an interesting formation. It appears that someone illegally dumped some cement into the sewer and it hardened as it was flowing out. Fortunately it looks like there is enough space for the water to continue flowing.
In several places on the floor of the tunnel there was this strange texture. At first glance it looks delicate and almost algae-like but upon closer inspection it is very hard and unbreakable. I really don’t know what could have caused a strange texture like this.
In one of the deeper sections of tunnel we found the remains of a broken manhole lid. This part was only about 6 inches deep but in other parts got up to about 1 foot deep +. This is where my rubber boots came in handy and Mortomer’s feet got wet.
The next month CMH4 did make it to Austin and we got to take another trip through. It had rained pretty heavily the previous week and we saw some evidence of drowning such as this raccoon. CMH4 mourns the loss of life.
Previously when exploring with Mortomer I kept seeing glowing eyes just out of flashlight reach down the tunnel. I have a feeling that those eyes belonged to this poor fellow.
This object hanging from the ceiling looks to me like something used to detect air quality, water level or something similar. The stickers were obviously placed there by previous explorers and there were no other distinguishing marks. The cord attached to it went along the wall and looked like it was supposed to go into a small side pipe and eventually to the surface but when we saw it, the cable ended with a clump of debris attached on the floor.
When Mortomer an I first came here we went a little way down the center tunnel but decided there wasn’t much more to see. When CMH4 and I went, we went a bit further.
