This night started off different than most because Marbrough, LMG and I (RevSM) were meeting a new addition to SUV for the first time – Allva. We didn’t exactly have a specific target in mind except maybe the Pearl Brewery or a trip to Standard Industries. Meeting Allva was cool, we exchanged a few stories and such about local places while waiting for Marbrough and LMG to show up. When he did we decided to go see what the deal was with Pearl.
When we got there we could see that there was a security guard in the booth up front and lots of lights. This place is in a very populated downtown area and there are cars going by all of the time. It didn’t help that we were there during Fiesta time and there were cops driving by even more often than normal. For those who don’t know, Fiesta is a Mexican celebration that consists of lots of drinking, parades, food and big events. Most of the city got off work early that day so they could go get drunk. The point is we decided that it would have to wait because we didn’t feel like getting arrested.
We decided to go check out Standard Industries instead. To make a long story short, I hadn’t been there driving from downtown so we took the outside loop around the city instead of the inside loop which of course makes a big difference especially in a city so spread out like SA.
Now that we were completely confused and lost Allva suggested yet another alternative.
He wasn’t sure what exactly it was or if there was a way in but he has done some scouting before and thought maybe we should check it out. He said it might be some kind of clinic or something. I was all for something like that.
Not expecting to get in, we drove there and around back of these buildings to park. It looked pretty small from the outside. Avoiding the big bright floodlights we tried to figure out how to get in. Looking through the windows and seeing beds and furniture left behind, we were almost positive that it was some kind of hospital and appeared to be somewhat modern. We thought about getting on the roof… but no that wouldn’t work. Maybe a window... No, there is no way to open most of these windows. Well we went around the side and by luck and after a few seconds of work, we found a way in through a door of all possible entrances. Who would have guessed?
This is a picture of about ˝ of the complex. We were standing at the back edge of the lot were there was a knocked down fence. To the right were a murky half full pool and a basketball court.
When we got inside the first few minutes were tense trying to figure out if the place had an alarm. We decided to take a quick trip around to see what we could see.
We took a look in a few of the rooms and it was becoming more and more apparent that this was a hospital of some kind. We got to a junction where wings met and found this absolutely awesome gurney. Yay! To the left was some kind of security station. Then I looked to the right at a peculiarly small room.
The door had one tiny window. And a small skylight up at the top.
On closer inspection of the window… it had scratches on it. I was getting totally wierded out.
On the other side of the door was a small room with barely enough space for one small bed. Also, if you look at the bed there are little slots in the side perfect for inserting straps to hold someone down. At this point, we were only there for about 5 minutes and I was positive we had stumbled upon a mental institution of some kind.
